A trio of companies has acquired a former mall site that's part of efforts to help downtown Long Beach, California, live up to what developers say could be a reasonably priced urban district on par with such downtown retail and entertainment hot spots as Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade and San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter.
