The Urban Land Institute Europe has appointed BCP Capital director Ray Crowley as the next chair of the ULI Ireland National Council.

Crowley, who succeeds IPUT's head of research Marie Hunt following her two-year term, will serve on a voluntary basis for the next two years.

Hunt is credited by the institute with growing its corporate membership and fostering greater collaboration with public bodies in her time as chair.

Crowley has been a member of ULI since 2007 and of the ULI Ireland Executive Committee since 2013. He is also a member of the ULI Europe Operational Real Estate Product Council.

"He brings extensive leadership experience in real estate having worked across direct real estate, listed real estate, sustainability consulting and public policy in Ireland, the UK and United States," the institute added.

Crowley said in a statement: "I am humbled to be appointed as chair of the Urban Land Institute in Ireland for the next two years following Marie’s highly successful tenure.

"ULI’s mission is to shape the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide.

"During my tenure as chairperson, I will work closely with the executive committee to explore the themes of urban regeneration, the delivery of large-scale mixed tenure housing on public land and how to broaden the mix of domestic and international core long term capital active in Ireland’s real estate economy.

"I feel the intersection of these themes sits at the heart of many of the challenges we face in Ireland today."

He added: "ULI is well placed to explore these themes as we can leverage the experience of some of the 48,000 active ULI members globally as well as the ULI Knowledge Finder which houses in excess of 10,000 individual pieces of real estate research.

"I look forward to bringing together existing members, and welcoming new ones, from across the private and public sectors to discuss these themes and to help affect change together."

ULI Europe chief executive Lisette van Doorn added: "Welcome to Ray, a prominent and experienced leader in the real estate industry in both Ireland and Europe, and a very active ULI member, as he takes the reins at ULI Ireland over the next two years.

"His expertise and strong network, commitment to ULI’s mission and objectives, and ambition to growing the membership and leveraging ULI’s network internationally to exchange ideas as he focuses on many of the current real estate challenges faced in Ireland, makes him an ideal chair to both lead and further develop ULI in Ireland.

"I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to our outgoing chair Marie Hunt for her leadership and substantial contribution to ULI in Ireland, serving the over 150 members including to important initiatives such as our schools-based educational programme UrbanPlan, our active Young Leaders group, many inspirational study tours, and the successful ULI Ireland annual conference, which attracted over 150 attendees."
