One day after announcing it had $2.84 billion in commitments for a newly launched private equity fund, Fortress Investment Group LLC (NYSE:FIG) struck a deal to acquire Florida East Coast Industries Inc. (NYSE: FLA), a Jacksonville, FL-based real estate developer and railway owner in an all-cash transaction valued at $3.5 billion.
