1. The battle over hotel bathroom doors
Traditional bathroom doors seem to be a thing of the past in hotel rooms, and it's leading to some conflict with guests, the Wall Street Journal reports.
"Guests are waving goodbye to the luxury of a fully-closable opaque barrier between the restroom and bedroom, checking in to find sliding barn doors, curtains, strategically placed walls and other replacements that aren’t as proficient in the art of noise and smell containment," the newspaper reports. "In some cases, they’re not even good at hiding the view."
At issue are the design consideration that push hotels to incorporate alternate door layouts and the specific purpose and function of bathroom doors. The story quotes one guest who stayed at the Calgary Airport Marriott and had complaints about the frosted bathroom door.
“You couldn’t see the fine details, but you could see everything else,” Denise Milano Sprung said. “I’ve been married for 25 years, I love my husband, but I don’t want to see him use the restroom.”
