A planned mixed-use development under construction in a suburb of Columbus, Georgia, has won that market's 2024 CoStar Impact Award for commercial development of the year, as judged by a local team of real estate professionals familiar with the market.
The 88-acre Midland Commons at 6835 Midland Commons Blvd. will combine a mix of apartments, retail, dining and an entertainment district. Located next to Flat Rock Park, it is about 10 miles northeast of downtown Columbus and 5 miles from Columbus Metropolitan Airport, served by Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines.
Midland Commons is on the site of a former Swift Textiles denim manufacturing plant. The Columbus region once was a center for the textile industry, but its economy has since diversified.
Columbus, the fourth-largest metropolitan area in Georgia, is home to the headquarters of Synovus Bank and insurance provider Aflac. Fort Moore, formerly known as Fort Benning, is one of the largest U.S. Army bases.
Midland Commons is 5 miles from a Pratt & Whitney facility that manufactures engines for aircraft. Pratt & Whitney last year announced a $200 million expansion of the facility.
About the Project: Developed by Flournoy & Calhoun Realtors and local businessman Jack Wright, the $65 million project includes a Publix supermarket and 22 loft-style apartments. Flournoy & Calhoun and Wright partnered to acquire the property in several separate transactions.
