Jonathan Pearce has joined Hines as senior managing director, tasked with leading the global real estate investment firm’s leasing and tenant engagement strategies across Canada, while also focusing on customer satisfaction.

Pearce joins the Houston-based company’s Toronto office after about 10 years at Montreal-based Ivanhoé Cambridge, where he was head of U.S. investments for office and life sciences and, prior to that, executive vice president of leasing and development.

The move comes as Hines has set its sights in recent years on multibillion-dollar real estate investments in Canadian office, retail, residential and mixed-use developments, including in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary.

The company’s recent projects have included the two-tower CIBC Square office project in Toronto, developed with Ivanhoé Cambridge, the real estate arm of Quebec's largest pension fund.

Steve Luthman, CEO of the Hines Midwest, Southeast and Canadian regions, said in a statement that Pearce’s proven leasing success across Canada and the U.S. “will be instrumental in enhancing tenant engagement and market execution” in his new role.

He will play “a vital role in maximizing leasing performance, refining strategies and providing in-depth market intelligence to our investment professionals and market officers,” the company said.

Pearce resigned from his position earlier this year at Ivanhoé Cambridge — which has lowered its office investment in recent years — and planned to announce his plans this year.

Pearce has a degree in urban land economics from Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom. He is a professional member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
