Budget-hotel operator Travelodge has opened its 600th hotel in the United Kingdom.

The 80-room Travelodge Skegness Seafront is located on the North Sea coast in the county of Lincolnshire and is owned by Travelodge. Developers have taken advantage of the hotel's seafront site to open Travelodge’s first rooftop bar, the 85 Bar Café.

Travelodge’s portfolio is mainly in the U.K., but it also has 12 hotels in Spain and three in Ireland, for a total portfolio count of 615 hotels and more than 47,000 rooms. The budget hotel firm opened another two hotels in the first half of 2025 and plans on opening nine more by the year’s close.

On Aug. 21, Travelodge published its half-year 2025 results, which showed a 3.2% year-over-year decrease in revenue to £471.3 million and an approximate 42% decrease in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization to £47.3 million.

In the earnings release, Travelodge said the results reflected “softer demand, particularly in Greater London, and event phasing weighted to [the second half of 2025], partially offset by contribution from new hotels, continued growth in [food and beverage] and strong growth in Spain.”

The company added that cost inflation contributed to the decrease in EBITDA, which was “in line with expectations.”

“Profits were impacted by approximately £20 million of inflationary cost increases, including around £9 million from National Living Wage uplifts and additional National Insurance costs,” Travelodge CEO Jo Boydell said in the earnings release. “Despite these headwinds, our diversified business and leisure customer base supported strong occupancy of over 82%, and the performance of our Spanish business was a particular highlight, delivering strong revenue and profit growth.”

In April, Travelodge acquired nine hotels with a combined 951 rooms formerly under the umbrella of Hotel Campanile, a brand operated by Jin Jiang Hotel’s principal European operator SAS Louvre Hotels Group. The deal price was not disclosed.

Five of the hotels were acquired on a freehold basis, with the other four acquired on long leaseholds. The properties are located in Birmingham, Bradford, Dartford, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester, Northampton, Milton Keynes and Swindon.

According to CoStar, Travelodge opened its first hotel, the Travelodge Burton A38 Northbound in 1985. Located in the English town of Barton-under-Needwood, Staffordshire, the 20-room hotel remains in the firm’s portfolio.
