If a little-known law enacted in 1935 to protect power customers from rate increases levied by out-of-state utilities remains on the books, one unexpected result of this week's blockbuster $9.1 billion merger agreement between Duke Energy Corp. and Cinergy Corp. may be the sale of Duke Energy's real estate subsidiary, Crescent Resources.
