HENDERSONVILLE, Tennessee—The SHARE Center was officially introduced to educators at this year’s 65th annual ICHRIE Convention, held 27-30 July 2011. The Convention was attended by 500 Hospitality and Tourism deans, directors and faculty from 30 countries.
The SHARE Center, which stands for Supporting Hotel-related Academic Research and Education, is a partnership between STR, STR Global and ICHRIE, the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education. The mission of the SHARE Center is to provide thorough and timely data for academic research as well as to provide comprehensive and relevant training materials for the classroom.
At the ICHRIE Convention, Steve Hood, senior VP of research for STR conducted “Train the Trainer” sessions where he demonstrated training programs such as “Hotel Math 101,” “Intro to the STAR Reports” and “The Global Hotel Industry.”
A pilot program was conducted during the spring 2011 semester with more than 25 schools participating. STR conducted campus visits and interacted with faculty and students. These schools provided invaluable feedback and helped to build the foundation of the SHARE Center.
Up to 50 schools are anticipated to sign up for the SHARE Center in the fall, including 10 universities from locations around the world such as Australia, Canada, China, the United Kingdom, Finland, France, Netherlands, Peru, Puerto Rico and Switzerland. STR is looking for non-U.S. schools to be involved in an international pilot program for the SHARE Center.
