With just nine days to go until the main event, Gibson, as with the other fighters, is approaching the critical part of his training. While around half of the fighters who began training three months ago have been whittled away due to injury, Gibson – the most senior boxer to step foot in the ring next week – is still going strong. Thirty boxers began training in August. Just 14 remain. Injuries have included back strains, a broken thumb, broken noses and, somewhat ironically, a stress fracture inflicted on an unrelated charity walking event.
