Trucking company Prime plans to develop a new terminal with some unexpected amenities on a heavily trafficked interstate highway about 50 miles south of Atlanta.
Prime will invest $160 million in the terminal at the High Falls 16 Business Center, located at 3739 High Falls Road in Griffin, Georgia, according to a company statement. Along with multiple buildings totaling 161,000 square feet, it's designed to offer some features not typically found at truck terminals, such as tire recycling and the sale of used trucks and trailers. It's also set to provide amenities for drivers including a basketball court, a hair salon, short-term lodging and a fitness center.
Prime acquired the 131-acre property in May for $40 million, according to public records. The seller was High Falls 16 LLC, based in Stockbridge, Georgia. Prime will own the terminal buildings, according to a company spokesman. Construction is projected to start later this year.
The industrial park is 3 miles from Interstate 75, a north-south freeway that spans the entire state, and is located halfway between Atlanta and Macon, Georgia. The terminal site is located near some of Prime's largest customers, which the company did not identify.
Prime, based in Springfield, Missouri, operates five terminals and other facilities in 13 states. That includes a 139,000-square-foot facility in Pittston, Pennsylvania; a 57,000-square-foot terminal in Salt Lake City, Utah; and a 51,531-square-foot warehouse for floral products in Wilsonville, Oregon.
Prime's services include leasing trailers as well as hauling freight in refrigerated and tanker trailers.
