Grocery Store Chain Buys Former Military Land

Acme Markets Inc. purchased 3.5 acres in South Philadelphia and intends to build a state-of-the-art, 50,000-square-foot combination food and drug store. The site, which sits astride an 86-acre tract formerly occupied by the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia (DSCP), is located between 20th Street and Oregon Avenue. The sale totaled $2.3 million and was handled by The Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC).
