Fast-growing Canadian furniture retailer Cozey, founded in 2020 as an online-only brand, is opening its first permanent U.S. store in New York.

Cozey signed a 10,146-square-foot retail lease at 160 Fifth Ave., between 20th and 21st streets, in Manhattan’s Flatiron District, brokerages JLL and Retail by Mona said Tuesday in a statement.

The direct-to-consumer retailer, which designs and sells modern, modular home furnishings, will occupy 5,372 square feet on the ground floor and 4,774 square feet on the lower level.

The 10-year lease is for the nine-story mixed-use building owned by RFR, the brokerages said. The space was previously occupied by clothing brand Club Monaco and Ralph’s Coffee.

Founded in Montreal, Cozey entered the New York market through a pop-up store in 2024.

The brand has since opened four stores in Canada — in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver — and plans to open additional permanent locations across the United States and Canada.

Cozey has expanding physically in Los Angeles with a pop-up in Venice Beach. Its investors include La Caisse, one of Canada’s largest public pension fund managers.

The planned opening in New York’s Flatiron District comes as the neighborhood is increasingly positioned as a home, design and experiential retail hub.

The area is where brands including Crate & Barrel, Design Within Reach and Aritzia operate “immersive flagship formats,” the brokerages said.

Cozey’s Manhattan flagship will feature showroom‑style environments where customers can experience and customize the brand’s modular furniture collections, they added.

For the record

JLL Executive Vice President Matthew Schuss represented Cozey in the lease transaction, while a Retail by MONA team of Brandon L. Singer, Virginia Pittarelli, Manu Wendum, Suzanne Bernstock and Madison Grossman represented the landlord.
