Safehold, IStar Agree To Merge, Prioritizing Ground Leases

Safehold and iStar, two real estate companies founded by Jay Sugarman, have entered into an agreement to merge, bringing together a total of about $4.6 billion in market capitalizations. The strategic combination will create one entity known as Safehold, the only internally managed ground lease company in the public markets, the firms said Thursday in a statement.
