Pfizer Inc. has purchased 29 acres and associated buildings for $19.6 million from Altarum, formerly the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan, at the corner of Plymouth and Green Roads in Ann Arbor, MI. The property is contiguous to a 54-acre University of Michigan land parcel purchased by Pfizer in March. Acquiring the land is a crucial step in developing Pfizer's Ann Arbor laboratories. "This land purchase, along with the University of Michigan parcel, will allow Pfizer to grow in Michigan, enabling us to maintain the Ann Arbor Laboratories as one of the company's premier drug discovery facilities, continuing our research into treatments for unmet medical needs like cancer, heart disease and infectious diseases," says David Canter, Pfizer senior vice president and director, Ann Arbor Laboratories. Altarum CEO Ken Baker added, "There is little doubt in my mind Ann Arbor will become a national leader in advanced technology and high impact research and innovation." Pfizer discovers, develops, manufactures, and markets leading prescription medicines, for humans and animals, and many of the world's best-known consumer products.
