Washington Group International (WGI) signed a 5-year lease for 166,487 square feet of office space at 7800 East Union Ave. in Denver. Denver Corporate Center II, an 11-story 178,992-square-foot office building, will serve as its new regional headquarters beginning in March. WGI is a leading international engineering and construction firm. The company does work in 43 states and in more than 35 countries worldwide. According to John Schimek, director of real estate for WGI, its "decision to relocate to Denver Corporate Center was based on the attractiveness of the area and Equity Office's ability to accommodate our space needs and criteria with the existing infrastructure we required." Prior to WGI signing its lease, INVESCO Funds Group occupied nearly the entire building. However, before INVESCO vacated all of its space at the end of 2001, Equity Office was able to finalize the new deal with WGI. "We’re pleased with Washington Group International's decision to move its headquarters to Denver Corporate Center," said Kim Koehn, senior vice president of Equity Office's Denver region. "We’re focused on building long-term relationships with our customers that support immediate and future space needs." Harry Jewett and Poe Corn of CB Richard Ellis represented WGI. The owner, Equity Office Properties, was represented in-house by Scott Perry and Kevin Foley.
