Big deals can sometimes come in small spaces.

Eastconn, a state-established nonprofit that works to provide education services to the region’s smaller and often under-resourced schools and communities, signed a 13-year lease to open an education center in the Tyler Square Plaza shopping center.

The Eastconn Transition Academy now occupies 19,817 square feet at the center, representing the organization's 15th school in Connecticut.

The academy works with special education students ages 18 through 23 moving from K-12 programs into adulthood, a mission that helped earn the lease a CoStar Impact Award, as judged by the real estate professionals familiar with the Hartford market.

About the Property: Tyler Square Plaza, in the heart of Willimantic, is a 48,000-square-foot neighborhood shopping center located near Eastern Connecticut State University and Windham Hospital.

What the Judges Said: “It supports educational growth and addresses the needs of underserved communities, representing a significant long-term investment in the region's educational infrastructure,” the judges wrote in an unsigned statement.

He Made It Happen: Ron Lyman is a broker and owner of Lyman Real Estate, which owns Tyler Square Plaza.
