California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Tuesday that schools serving most of the state's 6 million children will probably remain closed for the rest of the school year, and he reaffirmed that the state reserves the right to extend the shelter in place requirements that exist in six San Francisco Bay Area counties to the entire state if necessary to halt the escalating spread of the COVID-19 crisis.
