In August 2025, the Federal Emergency Management Agency executed a 58,172-square-foot industrial lease renewal in the community of Aiea, on the island of Oahu. Local analysts said the transaction secured long-term continuity for one of the most critical disaster-response facilities in Hawaii and the larger Pacific region.
Brokers at Cushman & Wakefield ChaneyBrooks, which represented the tenant, said the renewal preserved FEMA’s regional logistics and coordination hub serving Hawaii and other U.S. territories in the Pacific. The transaction came as Central Oahu has faced significant land constraints and low vacancy, making large available industrial spaces tough to find.
FEMA has operated at the site since 1979, and the renewal helped to ensure uninterrupted access for rapid emergency deployment, storage, training and other multi-agency coordination. Brokers said the facility supports disaster preparedness, response and recovery across one of the most hazard‑exposed and geographically isolated regions in the United States. It supports operations addressing hurricanes, tsunamis, wildfires, volcanic activity, flooding and seismic risk.
For helping maintain the agency’s mission-critical functions, the transaction was chosen by a panel of regional experts to receive a 2026 CoStar Impact Award for lease of the year for Hawaii.
About the transaction: FEMA renewed a lease for more than 58,000 square feet in an industrial property known locally as the Edward J. Doty building, located at 99-1269 Iwaena St. in the Aiea community of Oahu. The building is owned by Sunflower Hawaii Partners.
What the judges said: “By anchoring FEMA in a centrally located, high-spec facility, the transaction transcends real estate to become essential civic infrastructure that safeguards regional disaster resilience,” said Evan Ketter, leasing manager with MW Commercial Realty. “It helps ensure that Hawaii’s fragile supply chain remains protected through a long-term federal commitment to the island’s safety and stability.”
They made it happen: Danka Fabiankovicova, tenant representative with Cushman & Wakefield ChaneyBrooks.
