Grainger boss Helen Gordon leads a list of several real estate and built environment professionals to be named in the King's Birthday Honours this year.
Gordon, who became chief executive of the housebuilder in 2016, was made a Dame for her services to the property industry.
She is a chartered surveyor and was global head of real estate asset management of Royal Bank of Scotland before joining the firm. She also held senior property positions at Legal & General Investment Management, Railtrack and John Laing Developments.
Gordon is the senior independent non-executive director of Derwent London and a member of the government's New Towns Taskforce, as well as being a board member of RE:UK lobby group. Grainger said she is one of around only 800 people in the UK to receive the honour.
"It is a great honour to receive a Damehood in His Majesty’s Birthday Honours," Gordon said. "I am immensely privileged to have the opportunity to lead an organisation which is focused on improving the lives of renters and building more homes.
"The honour reflects the amazing work of the Grainger team and our shared belief of the importance of good housing and strong communities in our society."
Other real estate names to appear in the King's Birthday Honours include Philip Newborough, the co-founder and the former chief executive of Bridges Fund Management.
Newborough was made an OBE for his services to business growth and impact investing.
He co-founded Bridges in 2002 alongside Michele Giddens and Sir Ronald Cohen, and was chief executive of the business between 2002-24. During this time he oversaw the company's investment activity and led its investments in The Gym Group, The Office Group, The Hoxton, Simply Switch and Viva Gym.
At the end of last year, CoStar News interviewed Newborough about his latest investment vehicle, Hurlands, which is developing the "UK's largest indoor pickleball and padel venue".
Ian Piper, former chief executive of the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation, was given a CBE by the King, honoured for his services to housing and regeneration.
He announced his retirement from the role in November, having joined the corporation in 2017 and played a key role in "driving forward the vision for Ebbsfleet Garden City", according to the group.
Before stepping down in spring this year, Piper facilitated the delivery of more than 5,000 homes across the urban development and secured outline planning for Ebbsfleet Central, the future commercial and civic centre of the garden city.
In March Piper was appointed as one of four interim advisers to the government on its New Towns agenda to "drive forward delivery" of seven neighbourhoods.
Russell Manning, the founder of residential real estate agency Manning Stainton, which grew into Northern Estate Agencies, was given an MBE for his services to the Jewish community and to charity.
A number of built environment professionals were also recognised by the King this month, including Andrew Mitchell, the boss of major London super sewage project Tideway, was knighted for his services to the construction industry.
Rick Willmott, the former chief executive of contractor Willmott Dixon, received an OBE for his services to the construction industry, having led the firm from 2008 to 2023.
