CoStar News reporter Andy Peters was recognized in the nation's biggest regional journalism contest for his coverage of how artificial intelligence is changing the design of data centers.

Competing against journalists across the Southeast, Peters placed second in the 2025 Green Eyeshade Awards for a story examining the architectural shifts involving digital hubs across the country to accommodate intense electrical and cooling demands to power AI.

In “Artificial Intelligence Pushes Creation of New Data Center Designs,” published Feb. 25, 2024. Peters, based in Atlanta, examined how those changes are forcing architects to design and build data centers with innovations including higher ceilings to create pathways for liquid-cooling equipment, raised floors to make room for cooling tubes and added square footage for other support systems.

The contest is run by the Society of Professional Journalists for writers covering events in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Entrants included major regional publications such as the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Miami Herald.
