Bell Partners picks next CFO

Apartment investment firm Bell Partners said it selected Sarah Young to succeed John Tomlinson as chief financial officer upon his planned retirement on Aug. 22. The Greensboro, North Carolina-based company said Tomlinson will remain with the company as an adviser through the end of the year to aid with the transition. As CFO, Young will lead the company’s accounting, finance, tax, compliance and related teams and also serve on its executive and investment committees, according to the company.

Young previously served as CFO and senior managing director at Quarterra Group, a subsidiary of homebuilder Lennar, where she worked for 10 years. She also served on Quarterra’s investment committee. She worked earlier at Walton Street Capital, managing equity commitments across several funds, after beginning her career at consulting firm Ernst & Young.

NAI Burns Scalo expands Florida team

NAI Burns Scalo expanded its Florida operations with the opening of an office in Tampa, led by Tim Rivers, whom the brokerage hired as an executive managing director. Rivers, 20-year industry veteran, has led brokerage operations across major Florida markets and served most recently as Florida market leader at Cresa, where he worked to expand that firm’s presence throughout the state.

Before he worked at Cresa, Rivers served as Florida market director at JLL and senior managing director of asset services at Cushman & Wakefield. He also worked at CBRE and Newmark. He has overseen business lines serving and assisting occupier and investor clients with tenant representation, agency leasing, property management, project development and financing. NAI Burns Scalo said it plans to further expand its brokerage, advisory and related services at its Tampa office.

Cadence McShane names construction leader

Project contractor Cadence McShane Construction named Monica Schoenemann as senior vice president and chief construction officer. The Plano, Texas-based firm said Schoenemann, a 30-year industry veteran, will lead construction operations across the company. She worked previously at building firm Austin Commercial, where she most recently served as a vice president.

Cadence McShane, founded in 1985, is among the largest general contractors in Texas and works on projects across several sectors including multifamily, industrial, education and senior living facilities. 

Cushman & Wakefield looks to grow Chicago business

Joshua Crane joined the Chicago office of Cushman & Wakefield as a senior director. The brokerage said Crane, a 25-year industry veteran, will augment its suburban Chicago office and healthcare agency leasing services. Crane joined Cushman & Wakefield from Baum Realty. Before that, he held roles at Merit Partners, Golub & Co., Friedman Properties and M&J Wilkow. His prior work has included marketing distressed assets and representing clients in receivership proceedings.

“He will be instrumental to our efforts to better represent office- and healthcare-investor clients in the Chicago suburbs and help them navigate the current market and plan for growth,” said Vicki Noonan, Midwest executive regional director for Cushman & Wakefield, in a statement.

STRO Cos. appoints chief operating officer

Real estate investment and management firm The STRO Cos. appointed Gabriel Shiff as chief operating officer. The Ridgewood, New Jersey-based company said Shiff, who has 25 years of industry experience, will oversee all real estate activities including acquisitions, financing, leasing, accounting, development and management.

Shiff previously served as chief operating officer and chief investment officer at Roseland Residential, a division of Mack-Cali, the company that has rebranded as Veris Residential. He earlier served as an analyst at Bear Stearns & Co. STRO was founded in 1994 by Steven Millstein and is part of the Millstein family investment operations.
