ShopCore Properties, a part of real estate investment firm Blackstone, reopened its K-Fun Summer School at The Shops at Skyview in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens, New York, with part of the mall converted for most of the summer into “Skyview High” to educate visitors in Korean culture.
K-pop star Jung Dae Hyun performed for a throng of fans on the opening day of ShopCore's annual festival, and also organized classes on stage about K-pop, art, fashion, wellness, food and culture.
The fashion class included a style makeover inspired by the popular K-drama “Queen of Tears,” while the art class reimagined the traditional Korean painting “10 Symbols of Longevity.”
ShopCore's six events, which make up its K-Fun Summer program, began in June and continued through last week. Participants who attended more than four classes received a signed postcard from Jung.
As part of its K-Fun series last year, ShopCore treated shoppers to a free song-and-dance performance by South Korean pop idol Moon Jong-up, who is also an actor.
The Shops at Skyview is in the downtown business district of Flushing, home to one of New York’s Chinatowns, which includes herbal shops, Asian bakeries and restaurants.
The mall is also just around the corner from ShopCore’s regional office.
