Ruth Abellan
Named general manager at the 137-room Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz Gozo on Malta’s second-largest island, Gozo. The Spaniard arrives from four years as general manager at the NH Collection New York Madison Avenue.
Ruben Satink and Jens Gmiat
Join Zien Group, the parent company of Eden Hotels, as chief financial officer and head of operations, respectively. Satink is new to the hotel industry, having previous being in the same role at IT firm Levi9, while Gmiat has worked for hotel brands Soho House, Ruby Hotels, Zoku and, most recently, Hotel Co 51.
Georgina Powell
Takes on the role of projects and program manager for new-build hotel development at Whitbread PLC, the home of brand Premier Inn.
Laurent Herschbach
Named general manager at the Ritz Paris, where he has worked at since 1997 when he was appointed to serve the 157-room hotel’s front desk. His most recent role there was as director and hotel manager.
Jens Hackebeil-Herrmann
Promoted to chief financial officer at hotel firm Oetker Collection and joins the firm’s executive committee. He started at the firm in 2011, his last role being as vice president of finance.
Jason Rodgers
Promoted to general manager of the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay. He started at the Canadian hotel firm in 1998 as a management trainee, and he has been at his current hotel since May 2018.
Matthew Thomas
Appointed chief operating officer at the Lore Group, which has in its portfolio hotels including the Pulitzer Amsterdam; Sea Containers London; and One Hundred Shoreditch. He comes from Soho House, where he had held the same role since 2015.
Friedrich von Schönfeldt
Appointed general manager of Deutsche Hospitality’s 177-room Steigenberger Icon Grandhotel Handelshof in Leipzig, Germany. He started his hotel career as an apprentice at the Four Seasons Berlin.
Paul Stevens
Appointed chief operating officer for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa at hotel firm Accor, with responsibility for that region’s premium, midscale and economy division. Previously, he was CEO of Accor’s loyalty program.
David Todd
Hired as vice president of operations for the Middle East at Thai hotel firm Minor International. His previous role was as head of operations for the Middle East at IHG Hotels & Resorts, and he has worked in the Middle East for the past 20 years.
