Sainsbury's mothballs new store plans

Sainsbury's has mothballed plans for new stores, taking a charge of £287m because some sites will no longer be developed.

The firm reported a half-year pre-tax loss of £290m and said that like-for-like sales had fallen 2.1% during the period, and expects them to stay negative across the sector for the next few years.
