The £50m scheme was granted planning permission unanimously by East Northants Council in October 2012 and was supported by Wellingborough MP Peter Bone (Con), Corby and East Northamptonshire MP Andy Sawford (Lab) and also had cross party support from the neighbouring local planning authority at Wellingborough.
