BCSC: 'Town centre first' is just not working

The government's “Town Centres First” policy is not being implemented by local councils, exacerbating the crisis facing the UK’s high streets, the British Council of Shopping Centres has warned in a submission ahead of the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement.

The BCSC said the "cash-strapped" local councils are still consenting regularly to out-of-town schemes which could further drive “much needed trade away from the high street” and “without swift action, the “Great British High Street” will reach crisis point”.
