Gerald Eve blasts decision to delay 2015 revaluation until 2017

Gerald Eve has slammed the Scottish Government for condemning firms to two further years of over-the-odds business rates charges following its decision to postpone the 2015 business rates revaluation in Scotland until 2017.

Following the Government’s announcement, businesses will continue to pay rates based on property rents in April 2008 a time when values were at their absolute peak for two extra years. With property values now much lower than during 2008, many retailers and other businesses were expecting considerable reductions in their rates bills as a result of the 2015 revaluation, but will now have to wait until 2017 for some much-needed relief from spiralling charges.
