The typical pitch for moving to a 55-year-old and up apartment property is a chance to meet other people in your age range. The Verdant in Springfield, Missouri, wants to create a lively community that fits that bill.

The development was recognized as the multifamily development of the year in the Springfield, Missouri, market as part of the 2023 CoStar Impact Awards, which were judged by real estate professionals familiar with the market.

The Verdant offers an array of amenities, including indoor pickleball courts, a demonstration kitchen and a fitness center. The goal is to have residents interacting with one another through these amenities for a 55-and-up space.

Construction of the apartments was completed in February 2022. It has 44 units and totals 100,000 square feet, according to CoStar data.

What the judges said: "I thought it was well done with more creative [amenities] for residents than other 55+ developments," Scott Harrell, president of Scott Harrell & Associates, said.

"The Verdant [focuses] on the largest generational demographic in the USA and does so in [a] unique way. The project encompasses solutions for daily living including meals, entertainment and wellness," Gerald Zamora, senior advisor for Zamora Real Estate, said.
