By 2050, 68% of the world’s population is projected to live in "urban areas", up from approximately 55% today, rising to potentially 85% later this century, according to the UN. This equates to about 9.2 billion people globally living, working and socialising together in close proximity, with all the benefits and practical difficulties, that brings.
