A steady number of new hotels opened in the U.S. in the first half of 2025, including the largest hotel opening in California in 33 years and three new hotels near Universal Orlando Resort in Florida.
According to CoStar data, 377 hotels opened in the first half of 2025, totaling 41,078 rooms. That is a more than 30% increase from the first half of last year.
Upper-midscale hotel openings led the way, accounting for 33.4% of all hotel openings and 29.7% of all room openings. Among the top 10 largest hotel openings by room size, however, there were four luxury and upper-upscale properties apiece, along with one upscale hotel and one upper-midscale property.
