Pet Supplies Plus, a national pet supply retail franchise, fully leased a new distribution center in Orangeburg County in South Carolina to supply its Southeast U.S. stores with its lines of natural pet foods, goods and services. The company’s $53 million investment is expected to create 275 new jobs.

Located in the Shamrock Commerce Park at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Interstate 26 at Exit 154, the company’s state-of-the-art distribution center is situated halfway between Columbia and Charleston. It will be the company’s fourth regional distribution center.

In recognition of the major impact the new facility will have on the region, the Pet Supplies Plus lease has been selected by a panel of local industry professionals as the winner of the 2023 CoStar Impact Award for lease of the year for the Columbia, South Carolina, region.

Founded in 1988, Pet Supplies Plus has more than 630 stores, the majority of which are independently owned and operated by franchisees.

Operations are expected to begin in early 2023. The South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project.

About the deal: NAI Earle Furman represented the landlord, Appian Investments, in the lease of the 534,702-square-foot facility. Appian’s project partners include Pacolet Milliken and Jim Roquemore.

What the judges said: "This is a tremendous project that will add a large-scale distribution tenant along a highly trafficked transport corridor, with quick access to the Port of Charleston and the North/South-Eastern seaboard route of I-95. A great win that will support the County of Orangeburg," said Ryan Coleman, director of the City of Columbia Office of Economic Development.

They made it happen: NAI Earle Furman shareholders John Staunton, SIOR and Tom Daniel, CCIM; Chief Development Officer Hal Johnson, SIOR; and Senior Vice President Hunter Garrett, CCIM, SIOR.
