Dean Foods Co., which calls itself the largest U.S. processor and direct-to-store distributor of dairy products, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in a move that may change the ownership of dozens of manufacturing facilities around the country amid discussions over a potential acquisition by the Dairy Farmers of America.
