Association looks to grow Latino hotel ownership: To attract more Latinos to the hotel ownership space, the Latino Hotel Association is providing its members with information on owning a hotel, HNN’s Danielle Hess writes.
Lynette Montoya, president and CEO of the Latino Hotel Association, said the association engages with members and provides information to them through its annual conference and by working with other associations, such as the Asian American Hotel Owners Association and the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
She said Latinos are on the edge of great success in the industry.
“If they can see the side of (hotel) ownership and where it can take them … those are the goals of really providing the information and helping put groups together to start looking at the possibilities,” she said.
COVID-19 cases spike across the U.S.: The U.S. hit a new record for the number of reported daily COVID-19 cases Thursday, reaching 187,833 daily reported cases, which is nearly 10,000 more than the last daily record, The Wall Street Journal reports.
More states, such as Rhode Island, Maine and New Hampshire, added restrictions to curb the spread of the virus.
On Friday, Pfizer plans to ask U.S. health regulators to allow the use of its vaccine.
Changes in where travelers stay: STR’s Tourism Consumer Insights data shows people who are traveling during the pandemic prefer to stay in smaller hotels and short-term rentals, STR’s Chris Klauda and Rhona Lawson write. (STR is the parent company of HNN.)
“STR hotel performance data shows segments such as small town (non-urban) locations, weekends and markets outside the U.S. top 25 (often markets with wide-open spaces such as beaches and mountains) are reporting the ‘least bad’ year-over-year change in revenue per available room,” Klauda and Lawson write.
Cleanliness and safety are the No. 1 priorities for travelers when choosing accommodations.
California hotels are open during curfew: California has imposed a widespread curfew that requires people to stay home between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., but hotels will remain open, The Los Angeles Times reports.
California Hotel & Lodging Association spokesman Pete Hillan told the news outlet the curfew requires guests to be off the streets during those hours.
“The move follows a dramatic escalation of COVID-19 infection rates in California and beyond, including more than 5,000 new cases reported in L.A. County on Thursday. The restriction goes into place on Saturday and lasts through (21 December) though it could be extended,” the news outlet writes.
Sale of Trump D.C. hotel put on hold: The sale of the Trump International Hotel Washington, D.C., has been put on indefinite hold, CNBC reports.
Last fall, the Trump Organization asked Jones Lang LaSalle to shop the hotel to potential buyers for a price of $500 million. Bids for the property did not come in close to the asking price, according to the article.
The hotel has faced hardships due to the pandemic, and the Trump Organization has a $100 million loan on the property.
Brian Friedman of Friedman Capital told the news outlet that the organization could “either just turn over the keys or keep it and make it part of whatever media company the president decides to create.”
