A veteran retail team at Cushman & Wakefield in New Jersey is leaving that brokerage to join JLL.

David Townes, who spent nearly 5 ½ years at Cushman & Wakefield, has come on board at JLL as managing director of retail services. And his partner on retail deals at that firm, director Alana Friedman, will be joining him at JLL, according to people familiar with the situation. At JLL she will be a vice president.

Townes posted about his job change on LinkedIn on Friday afternoon. His profile said he will be working out of JLL's Parsippany, New Jersey, office.

Most recently Townes served as a managing director at Cushman & Wakefield's office in East Rutherford, New Jersey. He joined the brokerage in October 2017 as a senior director of retail services, according to his profile.

Prior to that, he founded BrokerMap, which offered the ability to create real estate maps on smartphones. He also did stints as a retail leasing broker at Ripco Real Estate and Welco Realty.

Friedman has been at Cushman & Wakefield since July 2018, according to her LinkedIn profile. Prior to that she was at RFK and The Goldstein Group.

JLL, Townes and Friedman didn't immediately respond Friday to CoStar News requests seeking comment.

Townes and Friedman worked closely together on retail deals at Cushman & Wakefield.

Last year, they were recognized in CoStar's Power Broker awards for negotiating the second-largest retail lease in Northern New Jersey in the third quarter. They represented the landlord when home furnishings retailer RH, formerly Restoration Hardware, signed a five-year deal extending its lease for a 32,790-square-foot standalone building at 3265 U.S. Highway 1 in Trenton, New Jersey.
