STR: US Results for Week Ending 8 November

In year-over-year measurements, the industry’s occupancy rose 3.5% to 66.2%; its ADR increased 5.4% to $117.48; and its RevPAR was up 9.1% to $77.74.

HENDERSONVILLE, Tennessee—The U.S. hotel industry recorded positive results in the three key performance measurements during the week of 2-8 November 2014, according to data from STR, Inc.
 
In year-over-year measurements, the industry’s occupancy rose 3.5 percent to 66.2 percent. Average daily rate increased 5.4 percent to finish the week at US$117.48. Revenue per available room for the week was up 9.1 percent to finish at US$77.74.
 
Of the Top 25 Markets, Chicago, Illinois, rose 15.4 percent to 81.4 percent in occupancy, reporting the largest increase in that metric, followed by Seattle, Washington (+13.1 percent to 81.1 percent), and Washington, D.C. (+10.1 percent to 74.3 percent). Oahu Island, Hawaii, fell 3.2 percent to 82.0 percent, posting the largest decrease in that metric. 
 
Five markets achieved double-digit ADR increases: Chicago (+20.1 percent to US$161.48); Seattle (+14.2 percent to US$138.04); Denver, Colorado (+12.5 percent to US$119.36); Boston, Massachusetts (+11.5 percent to US$201.42); and Nashville, Tennessee (+11.3 percent to US$129.21). 
 
Six markets experienced RevPAR increases of more than 15.0 percent: Chicago (+38.6 percent to US$131.46); Seattle (+29.1 percent to US$111.90); Denver (+18.5 percent to US$89.29); Orland, Florida (+17.2 percent to US$81.36); Washington, D.C. (+16.2 percent to US$114.55); and New Orleans, Louisiana (+15.5 percent to US$132.96).
 
Atlanta, Georgia, reported the largest decrease in both ADR (-5.6 percent to US$95.41) and RevPAR (-6.8 percent to US$64.66).
