In 2020, Accor had its second-best year in terms of signings in Europe despite the presence of the pandemic. Its head of development for the region said that strength has come from the firm offering augmented hospitality, not just hotel rooms, and thinking more like owners.

The hotel industry has had to change both broadly and within various demand segments over the course of the pandemic, and CEOs of hotel brands are hopeful lender sentiment will soon catch up with improving performance.
