Real estate developer CIM Group backed out of a $100 million deal to buy the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, believed to be the oldest shopping center in Los Angeles, after pressure from community members who argued the plan would create undesired gentrification and a local group vowed to acquire and develop the mall and surrounding property itself.
