Orange County employment increase buoyed by healthcare surge

Office-using sectors and construction weigh on overall growth

The September jobs report for Orange County, delayed by the federal shutdown, shows a modest overall employment gain year over year, despite sharp losses in several key sectors. The region added approximately 4,200 nonfarm jobs from a year prior, a 0.2% increase, as strong hiring at the start of the school year in education and health services and government offset declines in construction and office-using industries.
