1. Middle East airspace shut down after Israel attacks Iran

Air travel across the Middle East was severely disrupted after Israeli attacks on Iran, Reuters reports. Thousands of flights were cancelled or diverted across the region.

Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport was completely closed as Israel remained on high alert for retaliatory strikes.

"FlightRadar data showed airspace over Iran, Iraq and Jordan was empty, with flights directed towards Saudi Arabia and Egypt instead," the news agency reports. "About 1,800 flights to and from Europe had been affected so far on Friday, including approximately 650 cancelled flights, according to Eurocontrol."

2. Trump promises relief for hotels amid immigration crackdowns

Acknowledging immigration raids have been particularly disruptive for both hotels and farms, President Donald Trump has promised some relief to those industries without any timeline for specific policy changes, Reuters reports.

"Our great farmers and people in the hotel and leisure business have been stating that our very aggressive policy on immigration is taking very good, long time workers away from them, with those jobs being almost impossible to replace," he wrote on Truth Social. "Changes are coming!"

3. A look at summer hotel food-and-beverage offerings

This summer's unique menu offerings at hotels includes "sunshine on a plate," reports CoStar News Hotels' Bryan Wroten and Rachel Daub.

That specific description refers to a Mediterranean chicken dish offered at the Bar Clara at the Hotel Per La in Los Angeles — a meal of chicken over saffron rice and topped with fresh, seasonal ingredients like the green harissa, za’atar, Castelvetrano olives, and pickled golden raisins making it a perfectly satisfying and refreshing dish.

4. Airbnb blames hotels for European overtourism

While overtourism remains a major talking point for some European cities, Airbnb has released a report stating the problem stems from the "overwhelming impact of hotels" in the 10 most visited cities in the European Union.

“If cities are serious about easing overtourism, they must address the overwhelming impact of hotels,” Theo Yedinsky, Airbnb’s vice president of public policy, said in a news release from the company. “Europe needs more homes — not hotels — yet cities are building more hotels as the construction of housing in the region nears a decade low.”

The report notes hotels account for five times as many room nights as Airbnb across the EU and argues European markets should be sinking more resources into developing houses than hotels.

5. Hilton appoints new chief development officer

Hilton has announced the appointment of Christian Charnaux as the company's executive vice president and chief development officer. Charnaux previously worked at Hilton in various brand management, commercial and financial roles before a stint as chief growth officer for Inspire Brands.

“We are delighted to be welcoming Christian back to Hilton and grateful to Kevin for his tremendous leadership during this period,” Hilton President and CEO Chris Nassetta said in a statement. “Christian is joining at a time of incredible momentum for our business and will play a critical role in helping us accelerate our global growth agenda. With his experience and focus, we will continue building on our network effect – giving more guests even more places to stay for every stay occasion.”
