Saglo Cos. employees spent a late June day giving back to the community by preparing meals and scrubbing dishes at The Caring Place.

Saglo, a South Florida-based company that owns and operates shopping centers, works each year to make sure its team is involved in the community in a way “that the whole company can participate in,” Saglo President Hue Chen said in an interview with CoStar News. Its previous volunteer efforts focused on planting vegetation along the Underline, Miami’s linear park, and working with Big Brothers Big Sisters for over a decade, he said.

Founded in 1922, The Caring Place, previously known as the Miami Rescue Mission, provides food, shelter, substance abuse treatment, education, job placement services and spiritual development for homeless men, women and children throughout South Florida.

“We try to find these local organizations that we can really identify with and has a cause that align with what we think benefits the community," Chen said. "The Caring Place checks all those boxes."

This was the third year that Saglo volunteered with the organization. The company typically does much of its volunteer work in South Florida, but Saglo also has contributed to causes in other markets where the company is active, including Atlanta. The company's portfolio stretches from Florida to Maryland.

“We try to leverage our properties" to bring communities together as much as we can, Chen said. "Everyone should give back.”
