Volunteers from McCarthy Building Cos. and H.J. Russell and Co. delivered interactive playtime bedsheets to kids being treated at the Children’s Hughes Spalding Hospital in Atlanta, one of the largest pediatric clinical care providers in the country.
Through McCarthy Heart Hats, a national community outreach program, the volunteers surprised young patients and their families with 300 Playtime Edventures’ Bedsheets, a sheet designed for children undergoing inpatient medical care. The sheets double as an interactive game board with more than 65 activities that promote learning and cognitive development for patients experiencing extended hospital stays, including mazes, memory games, checkers and tic-tac-toe.
“We strive to build strong communities, but we have a greater passion to serve in the communities where we work and live,” Stephanie Lee, senior director at McCarthy, said in a statement.
The event was organized by Lee, Paul Bryant of H.J. Russell, pictured on the left, and Charice Holt of Hughes Spalding Hospital, pictured third from left. Since McCarthy Heart Hat’s founding in 2005, the company and its employees have donated more than $20 million and spent thousands of hours volunteering in local communities.
