The Crown Estate is an independent commercial business that owns a £16 billion property portfolio that is ultimately owned by the Monarch in right of the Crown. All of the annual surplus (net profit) is given to the Treasury. The monarch also has separate personal holdings. The eldest child and heir to the throne inherits the Duchy of Cornwall which in its 2022 financial year reported net assets of £1.049 billion.
