Law Firm Inks 20-Year Deal at 601 Mass Ave.
Following nearly a year of negotiations, Boston Properties signed DC law firm Arnold & Porter to a 20-year lease for nearly 375,000 square feet of office space at 601 Massachusetts Ave., its new mixed-use development in Washington, DC (pictured below). The international law firm expects to relocate to the new buildinig Boston Properties will develop on the property in October 2015.
Arnold & Porter currently leases more than half of 555 12th St. NW, Manulife Financial’s 12-story, 781,963-square-foot office building in the East End submarket (top).
The developer acquired the site from National Public Radio nearly five years ago and plans to raze NPR's current building at 635 Massachusetts Ave. after the the public radio firm relocates to its new quarters in NoMa. It will be replaced by a much larger, 11-story structure designed by Duda/Paine Architects that will be built to LEED specifications and include a mix of Class A office and retail space at the intersection of Massachusetts and New York avenues and K Street.
CBRE’s Patrick W. Marr, Sally Wilson and Timothy Dempsey along with Jennifer Perkins, a partner in the law firm's real estate practice group, represented Arnold & Porter.
Catherine Haley will lead a team from HOK to provide interior design oversight for the project. Jon Kaylor and Anne Dumont of Boston Properties represented the landlord/developer.
