White Lodging Completes Dual-Branded Aloft and Element Hotel in Downtown Austin

32-Story Hotel Complex Brings 422 New Rooms to Austin’s Central Business District
August 2, 2017
Whiting Lodging has wrapped up development on the company's 22nd and 23rd hotel projects in Austin with the delivery of the 32-story, 278-room Aloft Austin Downtown and the 144-room Element Austin Downtown at 109 E. 7th St. in Austin's central business district.

Whiting broke ground on the dual-branded hotel at the end of 2015 at the intersection of Congress Ave. and 7th St. Owned in a joint venture by White Lodging, REI Real Estate and Poe Cos., the hotel complex is located within walking distance of the 6th St. Entertainment District as well as the Warehouse District, the 2nd Street District, the Austin Convention Center, the University of Texas at Austin campus and the Texas State Capitol Building.

Designed by Dallas-based architect, HKS, Inc., the hotels feature a modern design with a tech-focus to promote greater wellness for their guests during their stays. On-site features include Caroline, a restaurant coffeehouse and bakery, as well as Upstairs at Caroline, an open-air bar located the second floor. The two hotels also share a fitness center and nearly 1,380 square feet of flexible meeting space.

Additionally, the Aloft hotel will include its live music venue, Live at Aloft Hotels, an open second-floor terrace and a grab-n-go kiosk, while the Element will feature its Bikes to Borrow program, signature breakfast and salon bar carts.

"We are thrilled to bring two exciting hotel properties together and into one building to the downtown Austin market," said General Manager, David Meisner. "The Aloft brand offers a tech-forward, vibrant experience and a modern style that is different by design, while the first Element in Austin will appeal to those wishing to be a bit more zen, balancing between life and work with a focus on wellness on the road."

DPR Construction constructed the complex, and Whiting Lodging will manage the hotels moving forward. For more information regarding the project please refer to CoStar PIDs 9780206 (Element) and 9780055 (Aloft).
