Hospitality Giant Renews Long Term Commitment to Connecticut with Global HQ Lease
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT
) has signed a new 20-year lease renewal and expansion totaling 430,000 square feet at One StarPoint, located at 333 Ludlow St. in Stamford, CT.
Starwood currently occupies 300,000 square feet there, and will expand into additional space as it becomes available under the terms of its new lease.
Constructed in 1989, One StarPoint is an eight-story, 430,000-square-foot, 4-Star office building consisting of two towers. It enjoys waterfront views of Long Island Sound, two private fitness centers, a 140-seat cafeteria, and shuttle service to the nearby Stamford Transportation Center.
The hotel and leisure company has nearly 1,200 properties in 100 countries. After relocating its headquarters to Connecticut back in January 2012 and bringing more than 800 jobs to Stamford, the firm will now expand within the building in a move that can accommodate 1,320 jobs under a single roof. The State of Connecticut provided the tenant with tax credits and financing incentives to support its growth and the creation of additional jobs.
Harbor Point, the master-planned development by Building and Land Technology, offers class A office space as well as abundant residential, restaurant, and luxury retail space to create a 24-hour live/work environment that appeals to the modern workforce and drives economic development in the state.
"We remain focused on attracting major corporations to Connecticut," said Carl R. Kuehner, III, CEO of BLT, who has overseen the development of Harbor Point into a successful modern waterfront mixed-use project, built on former industrial land that sat dormant for decades. "Corporations like Starwood drive our region’s economic growth, so we strive to meet their needs and make it an easy decision to locate here at Harbor Point."
