Real estate development company Africa Israel USA (AFI USA) has named Chagit Sofiev-Leviev as chief executive officer for the firm. AFI USA is a subsidiary of holding company Africa Israel Investments (AFI Group) Ltd., controlled by diamond merchant Lev Leviev.
In her new role, Sofiev-Leviev will manage the company's current portfolio of US assets. Its holdings include the Casa Moderna Hotel and Spa at Marquis Residences, a 67-story luxury condo in downtown Miami; the 250,000-square-foot retail portion of the Times Square Building (TSB) in Manhattan, home to Guy's American Kitchen & Bar, Jekyll & Hyde, Bowlmor Lanes, and The Discovery Museum; and luxury residential properties in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix and Las Vegas.
"Chagit’s drive and determination are going to be instrumental in moving AFI forward," said Damien Stein, chief operating officer at AFI USA. "She is a tremendous leader and we are thrilled to have her at the helm."
Since joining the firm, Sofiev-Leviev has completed a $215 million refinance at TSB, reducing the company's interest expense while lengthening loan terms. She is also in negotiation for leases at the 43rd Street retail space
Sofiev-Leviev has a broad range of experience in financing, investment, development, asset management and leasing, still serving as CEO for LGC USA Holdings, Inc., a privately-owned holdings company. Before that she served as CFO for Memorand Group, and was a financial advisor at Deloitte & Touche in Israel. She holds seats on numerous boards for a range of companies in Israel and the U.S. across the real estate, financial, fashion and multimedia industries.
Currently residing in New York City, the mother of two earned her bachelor's degree in economics and business administration from Bar Ilan University in Israel.
