Skanska USA added 10 new employees to its offices in Rockville, MD, and Washington, DC.
Lisa Scala was named senior director of business development in Rockville. Scala has nearly a dozen years of experience, most recently as real estate development manager at Herman Miller Inc. creating business opportunities in corporate and commercial real estate, federal government and healthcare. She is also a LEED Accredited Professional with an MCR designation and is pursuing her CoreNet Global’s SLCR certification.
Carolyn Desmond joined the firm in the District as a development manager in the commercial development unit. Her background includes working on large scale development and construction projects in the metropolitan area. Her duties will include conceptual design and fulfillment of project execution and acquiring development sites and properties.
Desmond is the former development manager for PN Hoffman & Associates where she served for six years. Her projects of note include the 315,000-square-foot condo and retail Union Row Flats and Warehouses project, the $1 billion Southwest Waterfront development and the 200,000-square-foot office and church 10th & G site, which Skanska acquired the development rights for and Desmond will oversee. She’ll also supervise the redevelopment of the 1-acre plot at 1716 Wilson Blvd. in Arlington, VA, into 136,000 square feet of medical/office/retail space.
“In this economy, we are fortunate to be able to continue growing and expanding our presence in this region by hiring top-notch talent with deep roots and strong local expertise serving clients in the Greater Washington, DC, Baltimore and northern Virginia areas,” said Chuck Brawley, executive vice president at Skanska’s Rockville office.
Other additions include: 18-year veteran Brent Emory and 10-year industry professional Brian Leier as project managers in the special projects group; Suzanne Iannarino and Christopher Seager as senior project engineers; Joseph Ratke as assistant superintendent; 28-year vet Jeff Renner, LEED AP as preconstruction manager; and Blake Boyd and Matthew Randolph as project engineers. They will be based in Rockville.
