Shorenstein Properties LLC has added three more buildings in its nationwide portfolio to the growing list of LEED Gold-certified properties recognized by the USGBC for existing building operations and maintenance (EBOM).
Media Studios North, a 932,190-square-foot, five-building, media and entertainment campus in Burbank, CA.
850 Third Ave., a 613,000-square-foot, class A
office building in New York City.
1875 K St., a 176,000-square-foot, class A office building in Washington, DC.
These three properties bring the total number of properties to 17 that are owned and managed by Shorenstein and have successfully achieved LEED certification at Silver or higher in the past three years. The firm has also committed to meeting, at a minimum, LEED Gold certification for all future construction projects.
"LEED certification is one of a number of benchmarks used by our property management team to help us realize our stated goal of pursuing sustainability and achieving ongoing efficiency in all aspects of our operations," said Stan Roualdes, executive vice president, property management and construction services at Shorenstein. "We continue to make Shorenstein-owned buildings some of the most energy and resource efficient, environmentally sensitive workplaces in the country," he added.
In addition, the San Francisco-based firm is a partner in EPA's Energy Star program and almost 80 percent of the company's portfolio has qualified or is pending approval for an Energy Star label for operating efficiency. Shorenstein is also a corporate partner in the DOE (Department of Energy) Better Building Challenge, committing to reduce energy intensity by 20 percent by 2020, and has partnered in the Environmental Defense Fund's Climate Corps Initiative.
