Saban Real Estate Buys Sam Houston State Student Housing Complex

Leading Student Housing Owner Adds 384-Bed Midtown Sam Houston to Holdings
February 2, 2018
One of the largest private equity owners of off-campus, purpose-built student housing communities expanded its portfolio with the purchase of a 384-bed student housing complex that serves the students of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX.

Saban Real Estate paid an undisclosed amount to acquire Midtown Sam Houston, an off-campus community located at 2821 Lake Rd. The complex features two-bed/two-bath and four-bed/four-bath apartments, and includes a community clubhouse and pool.

“We are pleased to be expanding our existing portfolio of off-campus student housing with the addition of this newly constructed, Class A property,” said Philip Han, CIO at Saban Real Estate. “Given its rich history in Texas and national reputation for academic excellence, we are particularly excited to enter the Sam Houston State University market."

An affiliate of Saban Capital Group, a private investment firm out of Los Angeles launched by Fox Family Worldwide co-founder Haim Saban, Saban Real Estate's student housing division owns 30 student housing complexes home to more than 20,000 beds across 17 universities.

Will Baker and William Shell of Walker & Dunlop arranged financing through Fannie Mae on behalf of Saban. Campus Advantage has been selected manage the community moving forward.

Chris Epp and Chris Bancroft of FourPoint Housing Investments represented the seller, Hammond Jones Real Estate Development, in negotiations.
